What is Osteopathy?

Osteopathy is recognised by the NHS as an Allied Healthcare Profession. It is a holistic, manual therapy that utilises a system of diagnosis and treatment for a wide variety of conditions. The profession has a focus on ensuring the structure-function relationships of the body work synergistically.

Osteopaths are skilled practitioners with expertise in the musculoskeletal system. Their hands-on manual treatment techniques include stretching, massage, manipulation, mobilisation and muscle engagement. The treatment provided is specific to the individual and aims to treat the source of discomfort, not just the presenting symptoms. To achieve this, Osteopaths may also provide exercises as well as diet and lifestyle advice to prevent symptoms from reoccurring.
